Overview

Pneumonia is an infection that inflames the air sacs in 1 or both lungs. Pneumonia can be life-threatening to infants, children, and people over 65.

Symptoms

The air sacs may fill with fluid or pus, causing cough with phlegm or pus, fever, chills, and difficulty breathing.

Treatments

Antibiotics and antiviral medications can treat many forms of pneumonia.
