In proctitis, the lining of the muscular tube connected to the end of the colon, called the rectum, is inflamed. Common causes include inflammatory bowel disease and sexually transmitted infections.

Symptoms

Proctitis can cause rectal pain and an ongoing feeling of needing to pass stool.
