Prostatitis can be caused by germs called bacteria. The germs may have spread from other parts of the urinary or reproductive system. Young and middle-aged adults have a higher risk of prostatitis.

Symptoms

Prostatitis symptoms can include urination that is painful, burning or frequent. The urine may look cloudy or red. A person also may have pain in the stomach area, groin, lower back, penis or testicles.
