Rhabdomyolysis is the breakdown of muscle tissue. It results in the release of a protein, called myoglobin, into the blood. Myoglobin can damage the kidneys.

Symptoms

Symptoms of rhabdomyolysis include dark, reddish urine, a decreased amount of urine, muscle aches, and weakness.

Treatments

Rhabdomyolysis treatment includes receiving fluids through a vein. This can help flush toxins from the blood. Early treatment reduces the risk of kidney damage. Physical therapy can help strengthen and regain muscle loss.
