Description

A bleeding condition caused by low levels of a clotting protein called von Willebrand factor in the blood.

Overview

Von Willebrand disease most often passes from one or both parents to children. Rarely, some people get it later in life.

Symptoms

Symptoms may include nosebleeds that don't stop within 10 minutes, bleeding from the gums, heavy or long menstrual bleeding, and heavy bleeding from a cut.

Treatments

Treatment focuses on stopping or preventing bleeding, most often with medicines.
