Altru to Offer Elective 3D/4D Ultrasounds

Posted OnNovember 15, 2018

Grand Forks, N.D. – Beginning December 1, 2018, Altru will offer 3D/4D ultrasounds as an elective and non-medical service for patients 26-34 weeks pregnant who have already had their 20-week screening.

Like regular ultrasound imaging, 3D/4D ultrasounds use high-frequency sound waves to create an image of the baby in the womb. What is different is that 3D ultrasounds create a three-dimensional image of the baby, allowing you to view their facial features. The 4D ultrasound can capture a live video of the baby.

“Most people know that healthcare experts use ultrasound machines to view images of the beating heart, fetal growth, blood vessels, and more,” explained Laurie Mahin, Altru Ultrasound/Mammography manager. “Our advanced technology is capable of capturing facial features, expressions, and movement. We are excited to extend this service as an elective option for patients who choose to participate.”

The 30-minute service costs $150. Patients will have the option to receive the photos via text message or email. To schedule an appointment, patients can call the Altru ultrasound department at 701.780.6157.

The ultrasound department at Altru is accredited by the American College of Radiology in all areas of ultrasound.
