Altru Health System’s Diabetes Center Earns Certification from the American Diabetes Association
Posted OnNovember 16, 2022
Altru Health System’s Diabetes Center has earned the Education Recognition Program (ERP) certificate from the American Diabetes Association (ADA), recognizing their quality diabetes education and support for people living with diabetes.
“We are proud of this certification because we understand the importance of adhering to established standards in order to create the best possible outcomes for our patients who either have diabetes or are working to prevent diabetes,” explained Eric L. Johnson, M.D., the assistant medical director of the Altru Diabetes Center.
The ADA’s ERP certificate assures that the diabetes education provided by the Altru Diabetes Center meets the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES). These standards were developed almost forty years ago by the National Diabetes Advisory Board and continue to be tested and updated regularly. Programs meeting these standards offer their patients and class participants knowledgeable health professionals who provide comprehensive information about managing their diabetes. For programs who apply for this certification, it is done voluntarily and, when awarded, lasts for four years.
