Community members with a history of smoking are encouraged to schedule a screening during Lung Cancer Awareness Month
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Early detection can make a difference in the fight against lung cancer. Throughout November, Altru will offer free lung cancer screenings on Tuesdays from 4 – 6 p.m. at Altru Professional Center in recognition of Lung Cancer Awareness Month.
The screenings provide an opportunity for eligible community members to take an important step in caring for their health and discussing their lung cancer risk with a healthcare professional.
“We know that a conversation or a screening today could make a meaningful difference in someone’s life tomorrow,” said Naresh Veerabattini, MD, at Altru. “By offering these screenings at no cost, we hope to make it easier for people to take that step, get answers to their questions and feel confident about their health.”
Not everyone will qualify for a lung cancer screening. Eligibility includes people over 50 years old with smoking history (smoking at least 2 packs a day for 10 years or 1 pack a day for 20 years). Eligible participants also include current smokers, or those who have quit, within the last 15 years. Individuals interested in learning more, or scheduling an appointment, are encouraged to call 701.732.7555.
Through initiatives like these, Altru remains committed to its mission of making a difference for those it serves by helping community members access care and take proactive steps toward better health.
