Get Started with Spring Cleaning in Your Bathroom

Grand Forks, N.D. - Altru and Safe Kids Grand Forks, along with community partners, will host a community Medication Take Back Event from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, in the parking lot near Perkins at 1375 S. Columbia Road in Grand Forks.
“Spring is the perfect time to clean out your medicine cabinet,” said Carma Hanson, Safe Kids Grand Forks Coordinator. “Unused or expired medications can build up over time, and this event gives community members a safe and easy way to dispose of them properly.”
The Grand Forks Sheriff's Department will be on-site collecting unused or expired medications, including pills, liquids, creams, ointments, inhalers, patches, and even pet medications. Sharps will also be accepted if they are placed in a solid plastic disposal container.
Staff from Altru Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy will be available to answer questions about safe medication storage for medications that need to remain in the home. Safe Kids will also provide free cabinet locks and Poison Center magnets featuring the toll-free Poison Help number.
Thanks to a partnership with Grand Forks Public Health, free medication disposal bags will be available for individuals who cannot access permanent medication drop-off locations. Free sharps containers will also be available for individuals who use needles or syringes for medication administration.
Happy Camper Coffee will also be on-site during the event with coffee and snacks available for purchase.
“Grab a cup of coffee, stop by with your unused medications, and cross one more thing off your spring-cleaning checklist,” Hanson said. “You can even keep medications in their original containers to make drop-off quick and easy.”
