Get to Know: Jamie Roed, M.D. | Altru

Jamie Roed, MD, has been named Altru Health System’s Provider of the Quarter for Quarter 2 of 2022. Here’s a chance to get to know a bit more about Dr. Roed.

What are your educational background and career history?

I completed undergrad and medical school at the University of North Dakota. I completed three years of residency training at the University of North Dakota Family Practice Center, now Altru Family Medicine Residency. I worked at Altru Family Medicine Center for six before joining the residency program in 2006. I have been a faculty member for more than 16 years now!

What inspired you to start practicing medicine?

My mother told me to be a doctor, and when Mama Roed tells you to do something, you do it!

Why did you choose family medicine?

As a medical student, I did a rotation at the University of North Dakota Family Practice Center. The faculty (Drs. Greek, Halvorson and Mann) were fantastic physicians that I wanted to be like someday.

What is the best part about your job?

Working with residents every day is the best part of my job. Teaching residents and getting to be a part of their training is fun. There is nothing more motivating than their energy and excitement for patient care and their future careers.

What or who do you feel has had the biggest impact on your career so far?

Drs. Mann and Halvorson. They both know everything about medicine and cared for their patients in an admirable way.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

I enjoy inline skating, skiing, huff’n’puff men’s hockey and spending time with my wife, Rhonda, two kids, Zach and Hallie, and our two dogs, Jemma Lou and Nattie.

If you had an extra hour every day, what would you spend it doing?

I would spend it watching hockey on tv.
