Educational Assistance Programs

At Altru, our goal is to encourage and support the ongoing growth and development of both new and current employees by providing educational financial assistance and emphasizing career development. We are committed to fostering a culture of continuous learning, offering resources that enable employees to enhance their skills, advance in their careers, and achieve their professional aspirations within the organization.

Educational Sponsorship Program

Altru’s Educational Sponsorship program is designed to support current and future employees who are pursuing a degree required for a qualified future role at Altru. Through our educational sponsorship program, Altru helps cover all or a portion of per semester tuition, program, and management fees, reducing the financial burden of education while preparing you for a meaningful healthcare career.

By partnering with regional academic institutions and select programs outside our region, Altru invests in your growth—helping you gain the education, experience, and support needed to transition from student to professional and build a long term career at Altru.

Educational assistance is available for select, in demand healthcare roles that support Altru’s patient care mission. Current qualified positions include:

  • Athletic Trainer
  • Cardiac Echo Sonographers
  • Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)
  • CT Technologist
  • Pharmacist
  • Pharmacy Technician
  • Radiologic Technologist (Rad Tech)
  • Respiratory Therapist
  • Surgical Technologist
  • Ultrasound Technologist

Qualified roles are subject to change based on organizational needs and workforce demand.

Many Altru roles are designed to support students balancing work and school while building experience in healthcare. Examples may include:

  • Pharmacy Tech in Training if interested in Pharmacy Tech or future Pharmacist
  • Respiratory Tech (RT), Nursing Assistant if interested in Respiratory Therapist
  • Radiologic Tech Student if interested in Radiologic Technician
  • CT Tech Student if interested in CT Technologist
  • Nursing Assistant, Phlebotomist, Central Sterile Technician, Medical Scribe if interested in Athletic Trainer 

These positions provide real world clinical exposure, flexible scheduling, and a pathway into full time roles upon graduation.

  • Regional Academic Programs (Employed)
    • Designed for individuals who are already or will be employed at Altru and enrolled in an approved regional academic program.
    • How it works:
      • Altru pays 100% of tuition, program, and management fees
      • Payments are made directly to the academic program
      • Eligibility is based on active employment and enrollment status
  • Non‑Regional Academic Programs (Pre‑Employment)
    • Designed for individuals pursuing education before starting employment at Altru.
    • How it works:
      • Funds are paid directly to the student
      • Initial payment requires proof of admission
      • Ongoing payments require transcripts and upcoming tuition invoices
      • Award amounts are set per semester and may not cover full tuition costs

To remain eligible for educational assistance, participants must:

  • Maintain required employment status:
    • Regional programs require at least casual employment while enrolled full time
    • Pre employment awards do not require employment during enrollment
  • Be enrolled full time in an accredited program
  • Complete the program within standard timelines (e.g., 2 year associate, 4 year bachelor’s)
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • Complete clinical rotations at Altru when required by the program 

Educational assistance is an investment—and graduates commit to full time employment while continuing their career at Altru after completing their program.

Commitment length is based on total assistance received:

  • Up to $25,000: 2‑year employment commitment
  • Over $25,000: 3‑year employment commitment 

Participants must maintain required employment status throughout this period. If employment ends early or the program is not completed, repayment of educational funds may be required.

  2. Complete the recruitment and selection process
  3. Sign the required Educational Sponsorship Agreement

The loan repayment program’s goal is to support and recognize Altru employees by alleviating financial student loan burden, help recruit employees and fill high-need jobs while keeping talent in North Dakota.

Qualified Loan Repayment Positions

  • Athletic Trainers
  • Cardiac Sonographers
  • Echo Techs
  • Medical Lab Specialists/Medical Lab Techs
  • Respiratory Therapists
  • RN or LPN (inpatient only)
  • Surgical Techs
  • Ultrasound Techs
  • Vascular Techs

Program Eligibility Highlights

  • Must be employee at least 24 months or less at the time of application
  • Must live in North Dakota or within 50 miles of the border for the duration of receiving financial support.
  • Hold a balance on a non-defaulted student loan

Commitment

Employees must remain employed, full-time (0.8 FTE and above) for 3 years
