Annual Physicals

An annual physical is an important part of staying healthy at every stage of life. During this comprehensive wellness visit, your primary care provider reviews your overall health, discusses any concerns, and helps you create a plan to prevent illness and maintain your well-being.

Annual physicals provide valuable information about your current health and can help identify potential concerns before they become more serious. They also give you the opportunity to build a relationship with your provider and discuss your health goals.

What to Expect During an Annual Physical

An annual physical is a comprehensive evaluation of your overall health. Your provider will review your medical history, discuss your current health, and perform a physical examination.

Your appointment may include:

  • Review of your personal and family medical history
  • Discussion of current medications and allergies
  • Measurement of height, weight, blood pressure, and other vital signs
  • Physical examination of your heart, lungs, abdomen, skin, and other body systems
  • Discussion of lifestyle habits, including nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management, tobacco use, and alcohol consumption
  • Assessment of your risk for chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and stroke
  • Recommendations for age- and risk-appropriate preventive screenings, including mammograms, colorectal cancer screening, cervical cancer screening, and bone density testing when appropriate
  • Review of recommended vaccinations, including annual flu, shingles, pneumonia, and other immunizations based on your age and health history
  • Screening for behavioral health concerns, including depression and anxiety

Why Schedule an Annual Physical?

Annual physicals help you:

  • Monitor your overall health over time
  • Detect health concerns early, when they may be easier to treat
  • Stay up to date on recommended screenings and immunizations
  • Manage chronic conditions and reduce future health risks
  • Ask questions and discuss any changes or concerns with your provider
