Altru’s executive leadership team is focused on one thing – our mission – making a difference for those we care for. Our executive leadership team oversees the operations of Altru Health System and the implementation of our strategic plan.
Todd Forkel
Todd Forkel brings over 26 years of leadership experience in healthcare to Altru. He previously served on Avera Health’s executive team as the Regional President and CEO of Avera St. Luke’s and the Avera St. Mary’s Regions and had previous leadership roles with Essentia Health, Innovis Health and Mayo Clinic. Under his leadership, health systems focused on workplace culture improvement, lean initiatives, implementation of evidence-based leadership practices, improvement of quality and service, support of veterans, as well as the executive lead of several service lines, including orthopedics, radiology and the hospitalists.
Dr. Josh Deere
Dr. Josh Deere has been a physician leader at Altru for more than a decade, serving as president since 2022. He has been with Altru since 2006 and continues to practice as a family physician. Originally from Kennedy, Minnesota, he earned his undergraduate degree from Mayville State University and his medical degree from the University of North Dakota. He completed his family medicine residency through the Altru Family Medicine Residency program. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids, going to the lake, traveling, volunteer coaching, and playing golf.
Derek Goebel
Derek Goebel has been with Altru for more than a decade. He has a broad range of experience within the organization, including roles in finance, business planning and performance improvement. Most recently, he served as the interim CFO and director of finance. Goebel is motivated to ensure patients have the best possible experience when visiting Altru.
He has a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Bemidji State University, a Bachelor of Science in business management from the University of Mary, and a Master of Business Administration from University of Mary. Goebel is a Veteran of the North Dakota Army National Guard who served 13 years, including two mobilizations. He is a certified healthcare finance professional by the Healthcare Finance Management Association and a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Meghan Compton
Meghan Compton is the chief clinic operations officer at Altru, a position she has held since 2020. Compton was named Altru’s chief legal officer in 2016 and took on additional responsibilities when she became chief clinic operations officer. She earned her degrees from the University of North Dakota: bachelor’s degrees in philosophy and communication and her Juris Doctorate degree. Compton has served on the following board of directors: Valley Senior Living, Edgewood Senior Living, Greater Grand Forks Downtown Development Association. She currently serves on Greater Grand Forks Economic Development Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce and Grand Forks Foundation for Education.
She and her husband have three boys. In her free time, she loves to watch her kids play sports, travel and spend time with her family and dogs outdoors.
Kristi Hall-Jiran
Kristi Hall-Jiran brings nearly 30 years of community leadership and partnership experience to Altru, including serving as CEO/President of Community Violence Intervention Center (CVIC) for over two decades. Hall-Jiran is a master’s level licensed professional clinical counselor with additional certifications in nonprofit leadership and management.
She currently serves on the board of directors of the Empire Arts Center and National Domestic Violence Hotline, as well as the UND Nistler College of Business and Public Administration and Greater Grand Forks Young Professionals Advisory Councils. She has previously served in many leadership positions including as chair of The Chamber Board of Directors, founding member of Women’s Fund of the Community Foundation, Bush Foundation ND Advisory Council, and Sharon Lutheran Church Council Chair.
Cory Geffre
Cory Geffre, MSMSL BSN, RN, is the executive vice president of hospital operations and chief nursing officer at Altru, providing executive leadership for the organization and oversight of nursing practices, clinical services, and evidence-based patient care services. Geffre’s passion is building dynamic, diverse and engaged teams that deliver consistent high-quality healthcare to patients. Geffre has over 22 years of experience in healthcare leadership, business development and operational efficiency.
