Our Pediatric Pelvic Floor team consists of an occupational therapist and physical therapists that are specifically trained in pelvic floor anatomy, pathology, and pediatric bladder and bowel management (also known as Pediatric Incontinence). This team can evaluate and treat the gross motor and sensory components related to pediatric bladder and bowel management for children ages 4 and up.
Our pediatric bladder and bowel management team specializes in providing education and treatment to help children to strengthen the core and surrounding muscles, learn exercises to coordinate and strengthen pelvic floor muscles, understand constipation management, gain independence in ADL’s and hygiene, regulate emotions related to bathroom/toileting routines, recognize and understand pelvic floor function through visuals and Biofeedback and identify the sense of urge.
Getting Started
If your child has difficulty with bladder or bowel management, consider consulting a healthcare provider to discuss the benefits of pediatric pelvic floor therapy. Early treatment can lead to significant improvements, helping your child feel more at ease and confident in their daily life.
During your evaluation, you will:
- Meet with office staff to finalize any paperwork & answer any questions you may have.
Spend approximately 1 hour with a provider from our pediatric bladder and bowel management team. - Parent and/or caregivers are required to stay with your child for the entire length of the initial evaluation.
- An external examination of your child’s pelvic floor muscles will be completed.
- Discuss plan of care and scheduling with evaluating therapist.
- Treatment for pediatric bladder and bowel management is often 12 weeks (about 3 months) but may be adjusted based on your child’s progress.
