Altru’s Family Birthing Center has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval, meeting the highest level of certification standards for perinatal care. We care for over 1,800 mothers and families each year, and we give every one of them the same, personalized care. All of our Family Birthing Center nurses are specially trained in mother-baby care.

What You Can Expect

When you arrive, you will be assessed in a triage room.

Then, you and your partner will move to a state-of-the-art birthing suite. All birthing suites are private and designed for your comfort. Room service is available from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

We will review and discuss with you your individualized birthing plan. We will consult your wishes and offer both pain management and noninterventional pain therapy options.

Once your baby is born, our nurses encourage skin-to-skin contact to promote bonding. We have a lactation consultant on staff to provide help if you choose to breastfeed. Our team will also equip you with the information you need to feel confident when you take your baby home.

Care for All Types of Pregnancies

At Altru’s Family Birthing Center, we have a Cesarean Birth Operating Suite for mothers who need cesarean sections.

Your partner will be able to join you in the suite once you have received anesthesia and in the recovery room following surgery. Afterward, you will be moved into a postdelivery room.

We also have a fully staffed Level III, 16-bed neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) staffed with neonatologists to assist mothers and critically ill or premature infants.
